Tube Preamp / D.I. Recording Amp
The Baroni Preamp/D.I.Recording Tube Amp is a series of 5 Devices, Powered by an High Voltage Tube preamp, to perfectly mimic the whole behavior of their reference classic Amplifier, in order to offer the best possible interface for recording or live performances, connected to an Audio Interface, or a Desk Console or a PA.
Thanks to its innovative, yet 100% analog VARICAB, it’s super versatile and when engaged, it doesn’t only mimic the EQ curve of a guitar Cabinet, but everything that comes after a preamp, so the power stage, the Depth And Presence controls, and the Cab+Mic variations.
BODY: it’s not only a simple gain, it is more about the behavior of the full amplifier. It will keep the amp Clean or mimic the overall saturation of the real amp including the power section, giving you the same sound of the cranked-up amplifier when you want it to. Use it in relation with the Preamp Volume below to fine sculpt your tone.
PREAMP VOLUME: Preamp Volume help you to define the perfect balance between gain and level especially when the preamp is connected into the return of a guitar amplifier (and the XLR OUT Volume won’t work) via the Preamp OUTPUT (TS Jack). when you are using the XLR out, keep it at max when you want a CLEAN sound and then adj. the overall volume with the XLR out Volume when recording, to squeeze out all the preamp juice.
TONE STACK: it is a Full, passive tone stack that faithfully reproduce the real tone stack of the real amp it’s inspired by. This is your main tone, then you can use the Varicab to fine adjust the overall tone when connected to the XLR.
FX Loop: when you want your Preamp to distort, it’s mandatory to have a series loop to insert your ambient effect after it.
VARICAB: it is a complex circuit, tweak it to understand how it goes, it is a multiple active filter. It keep the sound you selected from the Tone stack when at Noon. And it will ADD our analog sim of bright/air when turned Clockwise, and ADD the punch/bottom-end when turned Counterclockwise.
GROUND/LIFT: all rigs requires a ground connections, more than one will probably cause a ground loop noise, so, if you connect it to a grounded system (FOH, DAW, Active speakers, Return of a guitar amplifier, use the switch if you hear a ground noise. Ground comes from the Power supply. Use the included grounded power supply if you don’t have another ground source (sometime with computers). It can be also powered by multi psu for pedalboard using a 12VDC out with negative tip and at least 300mA.

The VARICAB control is an Analog Variable Cabinet Simulator that let you find the right sweet spot when going direct to mixer console, audio interface, or wherever you want to hear your guitar/pedalboard, sounds like it sounds with your guitar cabinet. It’s not just an EQ control, it works on the Feedback of the preamp, so:
Adjust the preamp amount, and just rotate the VARICAB control to change the tone, then enjoy the separate XLR Volume Level – MASTER Level TIPS: The image of a small combo on right and a full 4×12” on left, doesn’t mean just Bright-Dark.. but express the complexity of harmonic content, and richness of sound that is typical of different amps. Always check both sides to hear what it changes, cause the Varicab is also meant to better fit different input impedance of different kind of devices.
The Varicab effect is strictly dependant by the preamp volume, and our suggestion is to connect it to a line input, instead of a pre-mic input on your Audio interface, to not sum 2 preamps.
