The Stage Ant

Changing the rules of Solid-State amplification world:

For decades, matching cabinets to Tube Heads was very simple: there
were specific outlets for speaker impedance, usually 4-8-16ohms.
All you would have to do was to know the total impedance of the cabinet
and plug it to the right outlet.
Tube Amps are equipped with an Output transformer, which has separate
windings for each impedance, and to match is critical to avoid serious
damage.
If connected incorrectly the Power Tubes and output transformer can be
severely damaged.

And, what about Solid-State amps?

In the late 60s early 70s we saw the introduction of solid state technology in Audio
equipment and also some great Guitar Amplifier, for many technical reasons that makes
it a big step forward. However, guitarists preferred the warmer sound of tube amplifiers.
Solid state for the most part was employed in entry level/ lower cost amps. The only
exception to this was in Bass amplification where powerful clean tones were produced
and Bass player embraced this technology. Today however, times have changed. Solid
State Technology has made giant leaps forward. We now have many great Solid-state
amplifiers and digital modelers but….. There is still one big problem
Solid-state amps don’t have output transformers like a tube heads, so the power of the
amp, is strictly dependent on the impedance of the speakers.
For example:
A 100 watt rms amplifier at 4ohms, connected to an 8ohm cab, will lower the output
power to approximately. 50 watts rms.
With a 16 ohm cab, it will fall down to around 25 Watts rms.
It’s Ohm’s law, you double the impedance, you effectively halve the output power of the
amplifier. You get the picture.

INTRODUCING THE ADAPTO TECHNOLOGY:

Since 2012 Foxgear’s Baroni brand of amplifiers have been working on the cutting edge of solid-state class
D technology, developing a series of pedal sized guitar amplifiers from 45 watts up to our award winning
150W AFK150.
In the guitar world, most manufacturers utilize 16 ohms speakers to meet lndustry logistical/production
standards, the most common total impedance for guitar cabs are 16 ohms for 1×12” and 4×12”, and usually
8 ohms for 2×12”. Some exceptions are some old Marshall 4×12’s which have 16 to 4 switchable impedance.
OK, now picture this…
You’re going at a rehearsal hall or gig and your backline cab is a 16ohm impedance and your amp can’t
deliver enough power with it….what do you do?
Imagine being free to bring just your pedalboard with a pedal sized amp on it, and connect to any cabinet
you may find at the rehearsal place, or at a Festival, battle of band, whatever. No matter what the impedance
is?
Stop dreaming, Foxgear/Baroni proudly presents “THE STAGE ANT” series. Featuring our cutting edge,
patent pending ADAPTO technology.

INTRODUCING THE ADAPTO TECHNOLOGY:

THE STAGE ANT, as the name suggests, is a small but extremely
powerful pedal sized Amplifier. It is the first product in our range of
pedal sized Class D amps featuring our Patent Pending ADAPTO
technology, giving you the freedom to use any cabinet you want, free
from worry about correct amp/cab impedance issues!
Foxgear/Baroni have now released this new ADAPTO series of tube
Preamp/Recording pedals that will match any cab you may come
across but there’s more!
It can be used with any kind of preamp, digital modeler or
pedalboard, whatever you want!
You get not only power stage controls like Master, Depth and
Presence to fine sculpt the sound and adjust your tone based on the
cabinet you are using, the other side of the Stage Ant you get the
ADAPTO control.
It is a big three way selector with 3 LEDs which indicate what
Impedance you have chosen. Just like with TUBE AMPS, remember?
You determine your cab impedance and all you have to do is to plug
it into the corresponding output. You have just ONE speaker out and
a selector.
NO MATTER WHAT IMPEDANCE YOU HAVE SELECTED:
You get 100 W real RMS at 1% THD distortion 1Khz. Pretty neat, eh?

THE STAGE ANT STEREO:

Simultaneous with The Stage ANT (mono) release, on February 2025, THE
ANT STEREO will also be released and will include our new Patent Pending
technology ADAPTO as well giving you the stereo loving guitarist the
freedom to use any cabinet you want. Those who use DIGITAL equipment
such as pedalboards or modelers like Kemper, Fractal, Quad Cortex, Mooer,
Headrush will love what the Stereo Stage Ant will do for them.
Often guitarists wanting to go stereo are often forced to go FOH console via
balanced XLR outputs, they may not have access to FRFR speakers or the
correct cabs for their tube amps, all they can do is opt for in-ear monitoring
system or just stage monitors. Now you can also use two different types of
speakers, regardless of their impedance, which will be handled
INDEPENDENTLY by the Stage Ant Stereo, even if you have a 1×2“ and a
4×12”, with different impedances.
There is an INDEPENDENT master volume for each channels, adjusting
different sound pressure levels and an EQ section for fine-tuning different
tonal responses. The ADAPTO section consists of a three-way selector
switch with 3 successive LEDs indicating the actual impedance in use.
Just like in the case of tube amplifiers, remember? You know the impedance
of your speaker and all you have to do is plug it into the corresponding
socket. There is only a speaker output and a selector switch here, super
easy.
On the rear panel, there is a main power supply that automatically adapts to
the local mains voltage from 100VAC to 240VAC, so it doesn’t matter where
you are, and a digitally controlled smart fan that adapts its work and
modulates its speed to regulate the internal temperature 100% silently.
The inputs are in combo XLR/TRS jack format, balanced/unbalanced, and
finally the two independent speaker outputs.
You will ALWAYS get real 100+100 W RMS at 1% THD distortion @1Khz.
REGARDLESS OF THE IMPEDANCE SELECTED.
Amazing don’t you think? We think so and know you will once you
experience the Stage Ant w/ ADAPTO technology for yourself.

Italy, March 2025, Baroni is proud to announce something really new in the music industry, with his patent pending new technology called ADAPTO applied to two new products;

The Stage Ant Mono and The Stage Ant Stereo. We are talking about a Class D Power amp, in a pedal size format for the Stage Ant mono, and a slightly bigger brother in small Head size which is the Stage Ant Stereo. What is really a game changer with this ADAPTO technology? well, it works like an old tube amp, where all you have to do is to know the impedance of your cabinet and connect it to the right speaker out on your tube amp, no changes about power.

Same thing happens with the Stage Ants, you have the ADAPTO selector which sets the Power amp to the right impedance, and it’ll ALWAYS DELIVER THE SAME POWER, NO MATTER AT WHAT IMPEDANCE.

This is an absolute news in the solid state amplification’s world, where the rules were the same for everybody according to Ohm’s law: you double the impedance, you halves the power. So when you have your 100W 8ohm rated amplifier, if you connect it to a 16ohm speaker, it will goes at 50W max. We all knew this, and it’s kinda frustrating sometime. Well, forget about this now, just choose the right impedance and always enjoy the same 100W rms. We chose to start applying this technology with two power amps, as perfect companions to our recently released Tube Preamps, but it works great with any pedal preamp, digital preamps, or even with modelers.

That’s why we wanted to launch together also the stereo version, with two separate and independent amplification channels, so you may use also 1×12” on a side and pair it on the other side with a 4×12” you may find at the venue, or at rehearsal room, and enjoy playing in stereo anyway.

100W rms at any ohm power amp in pedal size, with Adapto control, Master Volume and Depth+Presence control to perfectly fine tuning your sound.

Its own specific PSU included.

A solid state amp, like any other amplifier, is not magical and even if it has a very high efficiency rate, it can’t produce more energy than what it takes from electric network to operate. It uses a portion of that energy to power its own circuits, maybe some lights and relays, there’s some loss due by transformers and other components, part of this energy is converted in heating and that’s why no circuit has 100% efficiency. That said , The STAGE ANT is a REAL 100 W RMS (that is a standard measurement “Root Mean Square”) and in order to produce that 100 W RMS, it has a total maximum consumption of 180W from your wall socket…The power consumption must always be indicated on a device label so, please be sure check it. If your “Amp” is rated 200 W (often without mentioning which kind of Watts, there’s “musical” Watts, PMPO Watts, RMS watts..) and the max power consumption is “55W”, there’s something wrong .. you may have bought a “magical” device.. Long story short: The max power consumption must always be bigger than the power produced.

SMART FAN COOLING SYSTEM: it is designed to prevent overheating and self protection of the system. It is digitally controlled with engaging and target temperature and it modulates its speed to reach the target and always keep the device safe and efficient.

ADAPTO: This Switch is the core of the ADAPTO system. Our Proprietary innovative technology that revolutionize the solid-state amplification’s world letting you always have the same 100W Real RMS, no matter what impedance you select. Like in a real Tube Amplifier, you just have to select the same impedance of your cabinet and match it on the 3 Way selector. An LED will show you what’s the current Impedance to make sure you chose the right one. This is important to avoid damage, like in a real Tube Amp.

ON/OFF: Shut down the power amp, to completely shut down the device, disconnect the power connector.

SPEAKER OUT: As said, like in a real Tube Amplifier, the only thing you must take care of is to match the cabinet total impedance to the selected impedance in the ADAPTO switch. In Tube Heads you usually have 2 or 3 speakers out with different impedance, here you have one common OUT and an Impedance selector, Super Easy!
